The Unvarnished Truth About Forehead Wrinkles

In an age of misinformation and Photoshop, it’s hard to find trustworthy before and after photos. I am excited to share my deep forehead wrinkles before and after because I can assure you that:

  1. I have not ever used a Botox treatment.
  2.  I have struggled with forehead lines since I was a teen (I’m now in my 40s). Each facial movement I made (especially during my days as an actress) contributed to by horizontal lines.
  3.  My pictures are not Photoshopped or edited or filtered.
  4.  My after pic isn’t just a lucky day or good angle with good lighting, I have decreased my forehead wrinkles SO much in the last 4 months (that’s when I started trying things to target them.

My Deep Forehead Wrinkles Before and After

The lines on my forehead are not merely signs of age; they’re the hieroglyphs of my laughter, my worries, and surprise. They tell a story, but as I stepped into my 40s, I wanted to write a new chapter. It was time to address these facial expressions that had become static wrinkles, etched deeply into my skin, and transform them into mere footnotes. I have no makeup on and this pic was just a random pic I found of me showing off the zucchini I grew (It was the biggest and best one I’ve ever grown!).

I don’t have any other pics of me around this time/right before I started targeting my forehead wrinkles because, honestly, I have felt so bad about myself and the way my face has rapidly aged in the last few years that I stopped taking selfies.

The “After” photo on the Right I took today, on November 27th in the same place in my yard with my same phone to try to get as close to the same lighting as possible. The crazy thing is that the lighting conditions were not the same… the picture I just took for the “After” photo has MUCH worse lighting… look at how dark the area of my eyes is and how much more contrast there is on my nasal labial folds and under my eyes- the perfect condition for a bad BEFORE photo.

Seriously, the After pic is so unflattering that I almost didn’t use it but I decided to show you that even with a bad pic with bad lighting you can tell that my deep forehead wrinkles have changed SO much.

I can see a huge difference in the appearance of lines on my forehead, both in the photos and more importantly in real life throughout the day. My forehead wrinkles have always been my number one sign of the aging process and because of the different at-home remedies and procedures I’ve done in the last 4 months I can finally say that my forehead is not my top concern or focus anymore.

Seeing the difference in my forehead has given me the confidence and hope to try to see similar results using low-toxic at-home methods in other areas, such as my nasal labial folds, my melasma, and my chest wrinkles. I hope my breakdown of the best ways to see significant improvement of forehead wrinkles without using botulinum toxin or other invasive cosmetic procedures helps you.

The Top 3 Things I’ve Done to Decrease My Forehead Wrinkles

These are the best treatments I’ve personally found to target the appearance of fine lines and deep lines on your forehead. The good news is all of these options are non-toxic, need almost no recovery time, don’t need a plastic surgeon, and give you effective but natural looking results.

1. Taming My Facial Expressions With Frownies

Frownies are all-natural brown paper patches with a plant-based adhesive that you put on top of your forehead to form a splint that keeps you from making facial movements while you sleep. Because your muscles aren’t able to move to make your common expressions, your muscles not only re-train the frontalis muscle to not make those facial expressions and forehead muscles that have caused wrinkles but also your skin has the time to smooth out.

Most people use botox treatment or other similar anti-wrinkle injections to stop facial expressions but I will never use botox (unless I have some sort of giant need or medical reason) because I don’t want more toxins in my body and I don’t want any weird side effects from long term use (also, I hate needles and can’t afford it. lol)

When I was smiling for my “After” pic just now it was crazy because I realized that when I used to smile before, my forehead would wrinkle up and now it doesn’t, my forehead just stays still. I used to have deep static wrinkles on my forehead and now they are faint. To be clear, unlike with botox, I am still able to have dynamic wrinkles, meaning, I can create muscle movement that shows wrinkles but I have to really think about it since my muscles have been retrained and the appearance of wrinkles go away after I make the face.

I saw results immediately after the first night of use but the results faded as the day went on. After 2 months of wearing Frownies nightly, the results started lasting through the day. I’m at the 4 month mark now and more forehead is getting smoother and smoother. It’s crazy to look at my before pic and see just how deep my forehead wrinkles were. This was no doubt the picture that made me think “Oh wow, I think it’s time to get serious about figuring out how to treat my deep wrinkles.”

2. Focus on Collagen Production

As with botox injections, I am not one for dermal fillers… the cost, the needles, the toxic aspect of injecting toxins into your body… it’s a no for me dawg.

Collagen Supplements

At this moment, I am using these powder bioactive collagen peptides made for skin and nails and I see a huge difference that I am not willing to even try another brand. It’s hard to describe but when I take it it’s almost like there’s a Gausian blur on my wrinkles… like the deepest crease is more plump and filled out.

I mean, I guess that’s how collagen works but it’s uncanny how quickly the collagen I take works. It’s not enough alone to get rid of my wrinkles but it 100% has made a difference for me.

Having said that, more recently I have done more research on the most non toxic (free from heavy metals and other bad stuff) collagen powders and I will soon be trying some of these collagen powders too.

Microneedling

I am pretty new to microneedling but already loving it. When it comes to rejuvenating the skin and bidding farewell to those deep forehead wrinkles, microneedling has emerged as a frontrunner. This minimally invasive procedure, also known as collagen induction therapy, offers a symphony of benefits for the skin, particularly in boosting collagen production.

Stimulating Skin’s Natural Healing

Microneedling works by creating tiny punctures in the skin with fine needles. This controlled skin injury triggers the body’s natural wound healing processes, resulting in cell turnover and increased collagen and elastin production. Collagen, the protein that gives our skin its structure and elasticity, diminishes with age, leading to the formation of static wrinkles. By kickstarting our skin’s ability to regenerate collagen, microneedling can gradually smooth out the lines that make us appear older.

A Collagen Powerhouse

Regular microneedling sessions can transform the skin’s texture and firmness. As collagen fills in the microscopic channels created by the needles, it works from the inside out, plumping the skin and reducing the depth of forehead wrinkles. Over time, this can result in a smoother, more youthful complexion.

Beyond Collagen: A Holistic Improvement

But the benefits of microneedling extend beyond just collagen production. The procedure can improve skin tone and texture, reduce the appearance of pores, and even make the skin more receptive to the active ingredients in skincare products. After microneedling, the skin can more effectively absorb serums and creams, enhancing their effectiveness.

3. Exfoliation Via Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are the newest addition to my skincare arsenal and the results are blowing me away. For sure the Frownies and how the have retrained my facial movements and facial expressions have made the hugest change but the chemical peels have made my forehead kind of glassy and eradicated the old traces of fine lines more and more.

Glycolic Acid Peels

The type of peels that I have done so far and that are specifically helping my deep forehead wrinkles a lot are glycolic acid peels. I’ve now done 5 glycolic acid peels at 30% strength. They itch a lot- not sting or hurt but itch like crazy when it’s on so I can only keep it on for about 5 minutes but after you wash it off the itching is gone and you are left with awesome results. Here’s what I’ve been using. I’ll note that I do not have sensitive skin so I started with 30% but if you do have sensitive skin then maybe start with 10%-20% and start by leaving it on for just a minute.

4. Hydrate, Moisturize, Protect from Sun Exposure

I think a lot of products could work for this… just keeping your forehead area from being dry or damaged by the sun but I like to use moisturizers, face oils, and then always SPF. When I took the Before pic I don’t think I was using SPF and maybe also not moisturizer. Here are a few products I’ve used to help with moisture and sun coverage that I have liked the most.

  • Frownies Vitamin C & E Serum: I like the way this goes on and the glow it gives without feeling sticky or heavy.
  • Castor Oil: I only use this at night because it’s so sticky.
  • Frownies Moisturizer: The consistency of this product is great. When I use it I usually put the Vitamin C & E Serum on top.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: I’m still on the search for the perfect hyaluronic acid but I really liked the L’oreal one so far.
  • Pipette: This is what I might try because of its clean ingredients and high SPF.
