Why I Personally Converted to a Fandelier Lover

Let’s talk fandelier ceiling fans and first, ceiling fans in general…I’m going to be super honest… I have always hated (maybe that’s a bit strong) ceiling fans and only for one reason: I thought they were U-G-L-Y. I also didn’t think they were necessary, I mean… why would you need an air conditioner AND a ceiling fan… didn’t make sense.

I am at this moment eating a big slice of humble pie. I now believe ceiling fans/fans in general are insanely important to the air quality of most homes. For those of you that don’t know, in 2022 we figured out, through an ERMI test and some very skilled inspectors that we had extreme levels of very hidden mold. Insurance did us dirty and barely paid out anything at all so we ended up having to do a lot of remediation ourselves and a lot of the re-build.

This seemed like a curse but we now see it as a gift because we were able to learn our home inside and out and we have learned so much about mold, air quality, and lowering the toxic load in our home.

The obvious way to improve air quality in a home is to use an air purifier. The less obvious way is to also increase air circulation and to lower humidity. Ceiling fans both increase air circulation and also lower humidity (which prevents mold growth).

Homes will naturally have pockets where the air gets stagnant and more humid, an indoor ceiling fan helps move the air and even out the humidity.

When you circulate the air you also give any air purifiers a better chance to filter all the air in the space. I was ready to ditch all of the ceiling fans in the house but now I’m actually adding more fans in the form of chandelier ceiling fans.

What is a Fandelier?

That’s right, thanks to some genius designers out there, ceiling fans don’t have to look like ceiling fans anymore! Now, they can look like cool ceiling fixtures and chandeliers. I’m telling you, fandelier ceiling fans are so cool.

They look like a regular light fixture until you turn them on and then, BAM! the retractable blades slowly appear and do their thing! Most of the blades on fandelier ceiling fans that I’ve seen are clear so when they are spinning quickly you barely see them.

Here Are a Few Features to Look For And Enjoy When Buying a Fandelier Ceiling Fan:

Mind you, you don’t need to have ALL of these features to love your fandelier but the best fandeliers do have many or all of these features:

Dimmable lights. In some of the negative reviews for some fandeliers people really hated the fandelier ceiling fans where there was no dimmer and they felt the light was too bright.
A motor that changes direction: one direction for winter and the other for summer.
Easy to clean model. I noticed that with a lot of normal ceiling fans the motor is contained in a vented enclosure and there is no way to dust and clean that enclosure. I don’t like that.
- Most of the fandelier ceiling fan models I’ve seen don’t have a bulky motor and you just would need to clean the blades and then the outside of the fixture.
Different fan speeds.
Different lighting temperatures.
Ability to make the fixture hang lower or closer to the ceiling.
The convenience of the included remote control
The intelligence of a wi-fi enabled model
Energy Star certification/positive ratings

Now that you know what functions to consider, let’s get to the good part- I’ve found the prettiest fandelier ceiling fans out there! I will say that I considered a lot of Amazon models but the quality just wasn’t quite there.

Maybe I’ll do a follow up post with just Amazon models but for this post, consider these the most beautious and highest quality at a low-mid to mid-range cost. One last thing, it might be smart to write down all of the rooms in the house and consider where a fandelier might serve you best-both aesthetically and functionality wise.
