I wish I didn’t know as much as I do about mold prevention but, In 2022 we discovered that our beloved and beautiful home was also home to extremely high levels of VERY VERY VERY hidden mold. We had to gut out home, move out for almost two years, remediate, and re-build to make our home safe.
After going through all of that and doing so much of the work ourselves, we learned a lot about mold, remediation, and mold prevention.
We also discovered our home had been a foreclosure two owners back. It had been owned by a single mom with 6 kids. I guess things had gotten so bad that she hadn’t paid the mortgage in years and the water was cut off. The owners that bought it as a foreclosure said there were holes in the floors and ant piles…. GAH! We had ZERO ZERO ZERO idea of any of this because our home is beautiful and in a wonderful neighborhood where foreclosures are unheard of.
I only found all of this out after we found mold (after having 4 inspectors check the house for mold the 4th team found it all because it was so covered up and hidden) and at that point I looked up the previous owners and asked if I could call them and I was like, “Ummm… can you tell me the home’s history because I think we missed something.” That’s when I found out about how they had bought it as a foreclosure and fixed it up.
Anyway… hopefully my misfortune will become a blessing to anyone who reads my articles about things you can do to help with mold-prevention.
